recently remodeled a bathroom to city and state code and standards.  I wanted to make the shower area as waterproof

as possible to prevent mold and mildew behind the facade of tile, that most people think keeps things dry.  Ended up

using a waterproof membrane sandwiched between cement board and tile.  Had to use a mortar without additives,

powder form.  Took a bit more extra work and cost, but the hidden value, i believe, will stand the test of time.
